Smart textiles: a time machine to competitive advantage

Esther Pujol

People are huge fans of everything that has the word ‘smart’ in it. It has turned the mobile phone into a James Bond-like gadget and TVs into home cinemas. But what about textiles? Making ‘clever clothes’ with technical features seems rather futuristic. Luckily, our specialists don’t really care about what’s possible and what isn’t, and made it happen anyway. In this article, we proudly present Qi-tex, our latest discovery in the field of performance textiles, and tell you why it should interest you as a textile professional.

Body movements

People get older, work out more frequently, and care more about concepts such as well-being and vitality. This is nothing new, and there’re thousands of textile manufacturers that create performance textiles that anticipate these trends. Their products are breathable, water resistant, baby-skin-soft, and pretty to look at. Due to this high number of competitors, chances are little your smart textiles will stand out. This is where we come in. As you may know, body movements are highly influenced by energy flows, mainly in the form of infrared rays. This means that if you optimise those energy flows, you can improve a body’s balance and performance. In other words: with the right techniques, you can change the way your customers move by changing the way they dress. Speaking of futuristic!

Qi-tex

Our specialists delved into old Asian medicine methods and discovered that a combination of six minerals, such as magnesium and calcium, could do the trick. They spent some time in the lab and came out with a brand-new product: Qi-tex. This textile finish can be added to any type of fabric and reflects infrared rays back to the body of the wearer. The body then uses this extra energy to optimise all kinds of body processes, by improving blood circulation, lowering muscle fatigue, and optimising balance. Still sounds unlikely? That’s what we thought, too. This is why we had Qi-tex tested in several different circumstances, such as during a workout (heavy lifting) and different balance exercises. The tests indicated a measurable 80% benefit rate, a number that even exceeded our own expectations.

What is it to you?

One of our specialists described Qi-tex as “a textile finish taken one step further”, and we think that says it all. When added to your fabrics, Qi-tex takes your products from the mundane to the outstanding, which is just what you need in today’s high competitive textile industry. So, want to be futuristic with us? Don’t just buy the product, but reach out and partner up. We’ll get together a team to create your very own Qi-tex finish.
